Green Salad Recipes
When making green salad recipes you have a choice of just using leaf lettuces or making a mixed veggy and lettuce salad. We'll start with the leaf lettuce variety first.%26lt;%26lt;%26gt;%26gt;
There are many types of greens to choose from. I like to get a few different ones from the produce department and mix them up a bit. You can also buy pre-mixed salad greens.
Having chosen your variety of greens, you should pick out any broken or damaged leaves, and break them up into slightly larger than bite size pieces.
Gently wash your greens in a bowl of water, and dry them on a dishtowel or use a salad spinner. If you bought a bag of pre-washed greens you can skip this step
Make sure the leaves are cool and dry, as you don't want to dilute your dressing. Put the salad in a bowl and wait until you are ready to eat before adding the dressing,as it will wilt otherwise.
As for dressing, a little oil and vinegar and salt to taste is all you need for a tasty, basic little salad. A flavoured vinegar is also nice, such as raspberry or garlic. I usually mix 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar. A touch of salt sharpens up the flavour a bit as well.
There you have it, a simple green salad.
As for the mixed veggy and lettuce variety of salad there is no limit to what you can add. Here's a few ideas...
lettuce
Tomatoes
Cucumber
Onions(red,green,sweet etc.)
Peppers(green,red,orange,yellow)
Radishes
mushrooms
spinach
carrots
broccoli
cauliflower
cheese
fruit
nuts
olives
red cabbage
celery
avacado
zoukini
mini corn
I'm sure there's others that would be suitable as well. I usually just go through my fridge and grab whatever looks good. How's that for a recipe?
Chef Salad Recipes
Chef salad recipes are basically a mixed veggy salad with cheese and meat added to the mix, usually turkey and ham. This is a meal in itself and quite filling.%26lt;%26lt;%26gt;%26gt;
Here is the basic recipe:
*Salad greens(about 6 cups or a 10 oz.bag of mixed)
*1-2 sliced tomatoes
*1 sliced cucumber
*2 sliced celery stalks

Ceasar Salad Recipes
There are many ceasar salad recipes to choose from. The standard ingredients are romain lettuce, croutons, parmesan cheese, and dressing. Here's an easy recipe...%26lt;%26lt;%26gt;%26gt;
Ingredients:
Romain lettuce
croutons
parmesan cheese
Dressing:
1/2 cup olive or other salad oil
1 clove garlic(crushed)
1 egg
1/2 can anchovies or anchovie paste to taste(optional)
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp vinegar(regular or flavored)
Gently wash wash a few leaves of lettuce in a bowl of cold water. Dry the lettuce in a clean dishtowel or salad spinner.
Gently break the leaves into slightly larger than bite-size pieces and put into bowl.
In a mixing bowl add the dressing ingredients and mix with a whisk or electric mixer.
Add parmesan cheese and croutons to the lettuce and gently toss. Add dressing just before serving.
Add dressing sparingly, gently tossing salad until the leaves are barely coated.
There are lots of add-ons you can add to ceasar salad recipes to make them into full meals.
Sliced/cubed chicken or steak is quite popular. See Chicken Caesar Salad.
Seafood is a very popular add-on. Shrimp, prawns, crab, lobster and scallops are the favorite shellfish.
Salmon and halibut are good fish add-ons. The best thing about seafood is that one will usually complement the other, so you can add as many different ones as you like.
Whatever seafood or seafood combo you use, make sure it's been handled properly(fresh-frozen,properly refrigerated etc.)
Any kind of smoked seafood really adds flavour. Smoked salmon is the most popular and easiest to find. Canned smoked shellfish such as oysters, mussels, and scallops are an alternative but these are very rich, strong tasting, and definately an aquired taste.
All these ingredients can be added hot or cold, usually on top of the salad right after the dressing is added.
For those meat-eaters out there I have found a very informative site all about Prime Rib. The pictures alone are mouth watering! You can access it here: Prime Rib Roasted and Ready.com
Broccoli Salad Recipe
This is the basic version of a broccoli salad recipe. You can add your own ingredients to if you want%26lt;%26lt;%26gt;%26gt;
to spruce it up a little, such as any fruits, vegetables, or nuts. You can also mix the broccoli with cauliflower for a tasty alternative.
Bean Salad Recipes
There are probably more bean salad recipes that haven't been invented yet as opposed to those that have.
These salads are often called 3,4,5,or 7 bean. %26lt;%26lt;%26gt;%26gt;
The beauty of these dishes is that you can just keep adding stuff until you have enough to fill your bowl.
The list of ingredients is endless for all the versions you could make. The usual recipes call for 3-7 different types of beans, usually canned, some oil/vinegar dressing, some veggies and spices.
I'm going to show you a simple one to start with, using a can of 6-bean variety rather than one can of each bean. This is a great way to get a good variety of beans without having to make a giant salad.
Carrot Salad Recipes
The easiest carrot salad recipes involve just carrots and mayonnaise.
If you are looking for something you can whip up in a couple of minutes this is probably the quickest salad you can make.
The basic recipe is as follows:
1-2 peeled carrots per serving
mayonnaise
* shred carrots using a grater or food processor and put in bowl.
* Add mayonnaise sparingly and mix.
That is about as basic as you can get. Here are some variations for a little extra flair:
1.-Add some raisins-this is the most popular addition to this salad.
2.-Add some chopped apple and/or pineapple Crushed pineapple blends well and really sweetens it up.
3.-Don't want to add any fruit? Try some chopped almonds, pecans, or sunflower seeds-a great way to add a little crunch and flavour.
4.-Add a little lemon juice to the mix, not too much though.
5.- Try substituting sour cream or yogurt for the mayonnaise. This will go great if you have added any fruit.
6.- You could add some other vegatables such as broccoli, peas and zucchini.
7.-Have a look in your fridge, you may be inspired to try something totally new and unorthadox. That's always my favorite option.
Ingredients:
1 can mixed beans
Olive oil(about1/3cup)
Balsamic vinegar(about 50/50 with oil)
1-2 slices red onion
1/4 orange pepper
1 celery stick
1/2-1 clove garlic
Oregano-1 pinch
Basel-1-pinch
1/4 cup sugar(optional)
Drain can of beans and put in large bowl
Chop vegetables, mince garlic and mix with beans
Mix oil and vinegar with oregano and basel. The oil/vinegar should be about 50/50 but mix it to your preference.
Add dressing to bowl, stir and marinate in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight. Drain dressing and transfer salad to a smaller bowl. If you prefer a stronger flavour just keep the salad in the dressing until it's eaten.

Tuna Macaroni salad
You need:
elbow macaroni
1 can of tuna
salad dressing
sweet pickles
boil the macaroni,
while waiting for that to get done, cut up the sweet pickles, and drain the tuna.
When the macaroni is done cooking drain it and put it under cold water till it is chilled. I put ice cubes in with it to cool off faster.
After it is chilled put macaroni in a mixing bowl.
Add sliced pickles, tuna and salad dressing, and just a little of the sweet pickle juice for a sweeter taste. ( the amount of salad dressing is to you preference) Then mix all together and chill in fridge for an hour.
It's perfect for lunch or dinner by itself, very filling.
Hope you enjoy it, everyone I have served it to loved it.

Cole slaw. Take one head of cabbage and remove the core. Cut the cabbage into quarters and grate it in a food processor. Put grated cabbage in a large mixing bowl. In a smaller bowl, combine 1/4 cup mayonaise, 2 tbs sugar and 1 tsb cider vinegar. Add the mayonaise mixture to the cabbage and stir until the cabbage is just barely moistened all the way through. Add a few celery seeds if desired. I like the celery seed but my husband doesn't, so I don't add them. :)
